I once drove across Canada after picking a car up from my brother in Vancouver. There’s an alternate route in Northern Ontario that parallels the shore of Lake Superior. It looked like a good idea. I drove for five hours and didn’t see another human, just endless trees and lakes and a bumpy road. Halfway through I stopped beside a beaver pond and rested for a couple of hours and ate lunch in the black spruce forest. No cars passed during that time. So alone. I was lucky I had enough gas.
